Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVPICU (Pediatric ICU with Cardiovascular Experience)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Evening/Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
  • Monday through Friday
  • Every other weekend and some holidays required
  • Average 36 hours per week

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in high-acuity hospital settings
  • At least 1 year of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience within the last year
  • At least 1 year of cardiovascular experience, including CVICU experience
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Licenses & Certifications

  • Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license required
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry pass/fail testing required before starting (specific Pediatric Telemetry Test via LMS)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Annual renewal and compliance with facility-specific Telemetry testing and remediation process

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
  • Physical exam and immunization documentation per facility standards (see Health Documents below)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
  • MMR: 2 doses or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (facility accepts medical or religious exemptions)
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer (no history of chickenpox accepted)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination form
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in Microbiology (within 5 years)

Additional Documentation

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Signed acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Telemetry Testing
  • Employment application and skills checklist (annual)
  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years

Notes for First-Time Travelers

  • First-time travelers allowed if meeting the 3 years of high acuity hospital experience requirement
  • Candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered

This position requires a highly skilled pediatric ICU nurse with cardiovascular experience, strong technical competencies, and compliance with rigorous testing and immunization standards.
