Description

NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours


Job Details

  • Work schedule includes 3 weekends during the 6-week scheduling period and every other holiday.
  • Time off restrictions: No time off approved during the first two weeks of assignment or Labor Day weekend. Maximum of 40 hours time off can be approved during the contract.
  • Must have Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification in-hand at time of submission; Dr. Brown’s Infant Driven Feeding certification is required but can be submitted pending completion.
  • Virginia nursing license can be pending at time of submission.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (VA license pending acceptable at submission).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Infant-Driven Feeding certification (can be pending).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, completed within 60 days of start and updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days.
  • Education verification through a third-party vendor; BSN preferred, ASN required if no BSN. Official transcripts acceptable; photocopies of diplomas are not.
  • Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health and certain units; facility will notify if needed.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for Behavioral Health and specific units.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted).
  • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB test.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required or negative Surface Antibody and Antigen titers dated appropriately.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
  • Drug screening within 2 months of start, updated annually; 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl required.

Additional Requirements

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units.
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged.
  • Facility-specific forms including release authorization, employee health screening, traveler compliance, and fit testing acknowledgment must be completed prior to start.
  • Candidates with latex allergy must complete a latex natural rubber questionnaire.

Scheduling and Time Off

  • Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • 3 weekends scheduled in a 6-week period.
  • Every other holiday worked.
  • Time off limited to 40 hours max, no time off during first two weeks or Labor Day weekend.

Experience and Travel Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • Years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent NICU experience required.
  • Prior travel experience: Not required.
