Description
Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
- Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.
- Patient ratios:
- Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
- Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
- Patient diagnoses include acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, and sepsis.
- Use and management of special equipment such as BIPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, ventilators, tracheostomies, and chest tubes.
- Required skills include phlebotomy and IV placement.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs between like units.
- Patient care technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
- Charting primarily done in Epic (preferred).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification from primary source.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly.
- Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season.
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements
- References: 2 references within 3 years required for direct hire candidates.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Work history verification required (minimum 2 past employments).
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations must be completed.
- State-specific requirements such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable), criminal background fingerprinting, disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list checks as required.
Special Considerations
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white.
- Epic charting system preferred.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
