Required Qualifications

• Active BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• 1 year of specialty experience

Job Details

• Float pool role covering MedSurg, stepdown, IRU (rehab), and ED holding
• MedSurg patients may include remote telemetry monitoring
• Stepdown patients may require titration of Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, and set-rate insulin
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• May float to ICU as helping hands
• Orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor for stepdown and 1 shift with a preceptor for MedSurg
• Navy blue scrubs required; jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue

Schedule / Staffing

• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays are worked into the permanent staff rotation
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are allowed if unit needs are met

Patient Population / Unit Notes

• MedSurg patients include post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, and some inpatient chemo
• Stepdown patients are primarily cardiac and may include dysrhythmias and CVAs
• Vent support on these units includes BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow
• MedSurg may include both “clean” and “dirty” patient assignments at the same time
