Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical

Location: Wichita, Kansas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM


Job Description

  • Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical care.
  • Assignment duration: approximately 13 weeks.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical/Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • MOAB Moderate Risk certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

  • Signed assignment agreement (offer letter, initial confirmation, and extensions).
  • Completion of Ascension-specific onboarding modules including:
    • Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.) with a minimum passing score of 80%.
    • NIH Certification (updated yearly or every two years depending on group).
    • EKG Exam with a passing score of at least 80%.
    • Cerner Test-Out and Training Checklist with signed attestation.
    • Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding completed onsite.
    • Pre-hire modules including Nova StatStrip.
    • Ascension Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training).
  • Ascension Badge Photo: forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Documentation of immunizations and health screenings including:
    • MMR: proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
    • Varicella: proof of two vaccines, immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted).
    • Tdap: valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
    • Hepatitis B: vaccination series completion or signed declination.
    • Influenza vaccine is optional but recommended during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement.
  • Tuberculosis screening:
    • 2-step PPD or IGRA within specified timeframes prior to start.
    • If positive, must provide negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Fit Test for respiratory protection required prior to start or onsite (annual update required).
  • Annual 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and updated annually thereafter.
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • Color vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.

Additional Notes

  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist is optional but may be required by unit leadership within one week of start.
  • Hiring manager evaluation and name change documentation are optional.
  • Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement.

This position requires adherence to strict credentialing, health, and compliance standards to ensure patient safety and quality care delivery.

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
