Overview
- Travel/Contract RN role in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Night shift: 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15.
- Contract length: 19 weeks.
- Unit ratio: 1:4.
- Unit census/size: up to 24 patients; 24 rooms/beds.
- Unit type: intermediate population with neurological and medical intermediate patients.
- Normal population: intermediate, sub-specialized with neurological patients along with medical intermediate patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Intermediate Care (2 years of experience).
- Intermediate Care experience within the last year.
- One completed travel assignment.
- Must be able to titrate LEVO (Levophed).
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips.
- Ability to titrate vasoactive drips.
- Ability to interpret dysrhythmias.
- Ability to manage dysrhythmias.
- Ability to manage TR Band.
- IV insulin protocols.
- Ability to titrate insulin drips.
- Feeding tube care and management.
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI).
- Must have a teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff.
- Must be able to adhere to the call-off policy.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
- Certifications required: ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, NIHSS.
- Experience with Epic.
- Required skills:
- Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; telemetry monitoring; use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- TR Band
- IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Feeding tube care and management
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Blood product administration; central line care/management; peripheral line care/management; PICC line management; starting and maintaining IVs
- Heparin protocols; PCA; thrombolytic agents; titrating cardiac drips and vasoactive drips
- Aneurysms and repair; craniotomy; CVA; intracranial bleeds; lumbar drains; post TPA care; pre/post neurosurgery; seizure disorders; spinal cord injury; substance withdrawal; traumatic brain injury
- Surgical drains
- BiPAP/CPAP management/maintenance; care of ventilated patient; chest tubes-Emerson/PleurEvac; High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC); interpretation of ABGs; nasal cannula; non-invasive airway management; oxygen administration; oxygen tanks; tracheostomy care/management
- Isolation Precautions/PPE; wound care/wound vac
- Float scope: other intermediate areas like 6a or 5A PCTU or 5C Cardiac Intermediate, along with critical care (ICU/Stepdown patients).
Preferred Qualifications
- Neuro experience.
- Accessing/managing ports.
- Phlebotomy.
- Triage.
- ICP.
- Conscious sedation.
- Charge nurse experience.
- CCRN.
- TNCC.
- CPI.
Schedule and Assignment Details
- Shift options of 36s and 48s can be offered.
- Call requirement: none.
- Weekend requirement: minimum of 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
- Orientation: 32 hours, including an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts on the unit.
- Scheduling type: per unit needs.
- Scrubs: navy blue and white; not provided.
