Registered Nurse / Labor and Delivery
Overview
- Travel/Contract role in Roanoke, Virginia
- Night shift: 3x12s, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Labor and Delivery (1 year of experience)
- Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Experience with NST (Non Stress Tests)
- Experience with reflex checks and edema assessment and clonus
- Experience with sterile vaginal exam
- Experience with triage of obstetrical patients
- Experience with EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring)
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience with internal fetal monitoring
- Experience with IUPC (Intrauterine pressure catheter) placement and calibration
- Experience with antihypertensive medications
Preferred Qualifications
- Competency and experience in antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR, including scrubbing or circulating
Schedule and Call Requirements
- May be scheduled every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- On-call required, up to 24 hours per 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
Clinical Skills and Experience
- Assist with sterile speculum exam
- NST (Non Stress Tests)
- Reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus
- Sterile vaginal exam
- Triage of obstetrical patients
- Use of EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring)
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Use of External Fetal Monitoring
- Use of Internal Fetal Monitoring
- Use of IUPC placement and calibration
- Medications: antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, terbutaline
Unit Details
- Labor and Delivery unit on 13 South
- 24-bed unit
- Includes a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds
- Staffing targets include laboring patients, antepartum patients, triage patients, OBOR patients, and OB PACU patients
- Average deliveries: 250 per month
- Average triage patients: 350 per month
