Neuro Onc RN
Overview
- Travel/Contract role in Kansas City, Missouri
- Day shift: 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
- 36 hours per week
- Ratios: 1:5
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- First-timers accepted
- Pending license accepted
- Locals not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
- Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments may be needed per unit
- Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period, with a combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
- RTO restriction: no more than 7 days
- Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks, with cancelled shifts equal to the regular shift length
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Oncology (2 years of experience)
- Oncology experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Government-issued ID
- Criminal background check
- Education verification of highest education related to nursing
- NURSYS verification
- Missouri license verification
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
- Two professional references

Unit Details
- Primary oncology unit treating all types of cancer in all phases of care from work-up to completion of therapy
- Administers inpatient chemo regimens
- Uro-gyn and Gyn-onc surgical population with post-op care
- Step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
Skills
- IV therapy/infusions, including coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood product administration, ports, central line blood draw, central line/implanted line care, infusion pump management, and intravenous medications
- Antibiotic, antiemetic, and corticosteroid administration
- Sepsis care
- Advanced directives and patient/family education and support
- Symptom management for skin and mucous membrane changes, altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
- Chest tube care and management
- Colostomy care and management
- Foley catheter insertion/management
