Opportunity:
Surgical Assistant - OR
Job Details:
• Day shift position with variable start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM
• On-call required with a 30-minute response time
• Call schedule follows an 8-week rotation, subject to change based on staffing needs
• General/Neuro call includes AM/PM slots, end-of-shift (EOS) call with 10 slots, and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 8-week schedule
• Ortho call includes 1 day each week (Monday through Friday) with EOS until 7:00 AM, and 1 call weekend every 5 weeks
• Holiday weeks allow for either four 10-hour shifts or an unpaid holiday
• Minimum of 2 years of experience required
• Not recommended for first-time travelers
• Assist with Neuro/ENT procedures including spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, dissections), cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs), and ENT procedures (neck dissections with flaps, sinus surgeries, tympanoplasty)
• Assist with orthopedic procedures including fractures, anterior and posterior hips, total knees, ortho spine, hand, foot/ankle, total shoulders, and arthroscopy
• Assist with general procedures including breasts, plastic, vascular, laparoscopic, general oncology, GU, and GYN
• Proficiency with navigation systems including Medtronic (cranial and spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), Stryker, and Synaptive Navigation (cranial)
• Experience with orthopedic equipment including Hana Table, Jackson Table, and Beach Chair setups
• Experience with positioning equipment such as Stulberg hip, spider arm, hip grip, Trimano, and Arthrex shoulder traction
• Familiarity with Velys robotic system preferred; DaVinci XI robot training only available for providers with strong background and commitment beyond one contract
• Cross-trained to General Main OR specialty and Urology Center; no floating to other hospitals or sites
• Travelers float first within the department
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Required certifications: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA; BLS required
• Surgical scrubs provided by the facility; scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
• Free parking available with shuttle service provided to and from parking structure
Facility:
This facility is a large 636-bed acute care hospital designated as a Level III Trauma Center and Level III NICU, with Magnet designation and Primary Stroke Center status. The surgical department operates 21 beds and provides a comprehensive range of surgical services including general, neuro, ENT, orthopedic, vascular, and robotic-assisted procedures. The department is supported by charge RNs, leads, supervisors across AM, PM, and weekend shifts, and a dedicated manager to ensure a well-structured work environment.
