Opportunity:

RN - PCU

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts
• Every 3rd weekend required: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• 2 out of 3 holidays required
• On-call/standby requirement with 45-minute response time; less likely to be placed on call if willing to float to other areas such as the ED
• Floating is not required, but the alternative is to go home and lose hours; float options include the ED for tasking or holding patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: IMC/PCU 1:3-4, Med Surg 1:5, ICU 1:3; 2 RNs in department at all times; team nursing with RN and LPN covering up to 7 patients total
• 12-bed unit with 4 additional ICU rooms; average census of 8 patients
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, post-op knees, hips, and falls
• Must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Heparin, Levo, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors
• Responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips independently; remote tele monitored by Eau Claire
• Travelers may be asked to step into a charge nurse role
• Flexible scheduling required to help fill gaps in permanent staffing; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
• 1 CNA available when census exceeds 6 patients
• Unit orientation includes 4 hours of CBT and 8 hours of floor training
• Solid color scrubs required
• Charting system: Cerner experience required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU experience required (MS-Tele experience alone is not appropriate); prior ICU experience also accepted
• First-time travelers and travel duos accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)

Facility:

This acute care facility operates a Progressive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit that provides comprehensive medical and surgical services to its patient population. The unit supports a collaborative team nursing model and maintains access to telemetry monitoring and critical care resources. The department is led by a manager with firsthand travel nursing experience, fostering an environment that is supportive and welcoming to travel staff.
