Opportunity:
RN - ER
Job Details:
• 12-hour shifts with variable start times including 5:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 7:00 PM; shifts more likely to be evenings and nights but variable
• Rotating weekends (every other weekend) and rotating holidays (every other holiday) required
• No on-call requirement; occasional standby may occur if census is low prior to shift starting
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 in the ER and 1:6 in Urgent Care
• Work in a 38-bed combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit with 5 trauma bays and resuscitation rooms
• Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center; STEMI receiving and Stroke Center
• Average patient volume of 140-180 patients per day
• All nurses are expected to triage patients, including those arriving by ambulance
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicide ideation
• Common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and norepinephrine
• RNs are responsible for drawing labs; phlebotomy handles blood cultures unless delayed beyond 20 minutes
• RNs expected to monitor patient rhythms using GE monitors throughout the department
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow; RNs may troubleshoot but should defer to RT for issues
• X-ray and CT available within the department
• Charting system: Cerner experience preferred
• Scrubs: Any solid color, clean and professional
• Orientation consists of three days: Day 1 includes computer-based trainings and department orientation; Days 2 and 3 include on-unit orientation with an RN preceptor
• Floating may occasionally occur to serve as a patient sitter or provide helping hands only; not required to take a team of patients
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience preferred; Level 1 or 2 trauma experience and pediatric experience ideal
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS, PALS (AHA), TNCC (ENPC encouraged but not required)
Facility:
This facility is a Level 2 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center operating a 38-bed combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit with 5 dedicated trauma bays and resuscitation rooms. The department is supported by ED physicians, mid-level providers including PAs and NPs, charge nurses, and a 24/7 house supervisor. Ancillary support includes health unit coordinators, patient care technicians, paramedics, and respiratory therapy available around the clock. The facility also features in-house X-ray and CT imaging within the department and maintains 24/7 security on-site.
