Opportunity:
Surgical Assistant - OR
Job Details:
• Day shift with variable start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM
• No weekend rotation required
• On-call requirements include 30-minute response time, end-of-shift call slots, and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 8-week schedule
• Holiday weeks allow the option to work 4 (10-hour) shifts or take the holiday unpaid
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers not recommended
• Patient ratio of 1:1
• Required certifications: BLS and Surgical Assistant certification from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA
• Must have experience with Neuro/ENT procedures including spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies), cranial surgeries, and ENT procedures including neck dissections with flaps and sinus surgery
• Must have experience with orthopedic procedures including fractures, anterior/posterior hips, total knees, ortho spine, hand, foot/ankle, total shoulders, and arthroscopy
• Must be familiar with orthopedic equipment and tables including Hanna Table, Jackson Table, and Beach Chair setups
• Must be familiar with positioning equipment including Stulberg Hip, Spider Arm, Hip Grip, Trimano, and Arthrex Shoulder Traction
• Must have experience with specialty equipment including Velys Robot
• Must be familiar with navigation systems including Medtronic (Cranial & Spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), and Stryker & Synaptive Navigation (Cranial)
• General surgery experience required including Breasts/Plastics, Vascular, Laparoscopic, General Oncology, GU, and GYN
• Robot (XI) experience preferred; agency staff will not be trained on robots unless they have a strong background and commit to more than one contract
• Charting systems and equipment used include EPIC, Alaris, and Pyxis
• Will be cross-trained to General Main OR specialty and Urology Center; no floating to other hospitals or sites
• Surgical scrubs provided by the facility; scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
• Free parking available with shuttle service to and from parking structure
Facility:
This facility is a large 636-bed hospital and Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation, a Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center status. The operating room department features 21 OR beds and offers a comprehensive range of surgical specialties including neurosurgery, ENT, orthopedics, and general surgery. The unit is supported by charge nurses, leads, supervisors, and a manager across AM, PM, and weekend shifts, ensuring a well-structured and collaborative environment for surgical professionals.
