Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Night shift position from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 29-bed Med Surg Tele unit on 7 North
• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4-5; night shift ratio 1:5-6
• Nursing Assistants present on unit with varying ratios by shift; RNs carry additional responsibility for vital signs and ADLs during 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM hours
• Telemetry techs monitor unit 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• Charge nurse present on all shifts and takes an assignment; house supervisor available on all shifts
• Common patient diagnoses include ortho trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
• RNs required to titrate drips following prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitro, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy; no ventilators; respiratory therapy support is present
• Charting system: Cerner
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Block scheduling used to the best of the unit's ability dependent on staffing; no self-scheduling
• Scrub color: any color, clean and professional
• Orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
• Minimum 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
• BSN not required
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
