Opportunity:

RN - MedSurg

Job Details:

• Work with high acuity patients including cardiac step down, post procedure cardiac patients, peritoneal dialysis, secondary stroke unit, CHF, and telemetry patients
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently
• Administer cardiac drips including Amiodarone and Cardizem
• Monitor sheath sites and assist with pre/post cardiac catheterization care (femoral/radial)
• Manage chest tubes and non-titrating medications including nitro and dobutamine
• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 and night shift ratio of 1:5
• Typically 3 RNs per shift during days and 2 RNs per shift during nights
• Shared responsibility with RN for blood draws alongside phlebotomy team
• Respiratory therapy and hospitalist support available 24/7
• IV team available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on day shift only
• Chart using EPIC system (required) with Alaris and Pyxis equipment
• Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend by default
• Holiday expectations include 1 summer and 1 winter holiday with flexibility around Christmas Eve/Day or New Year's Eve/Day
• Low census periods managed in 4-hour increments primarily on nights
• May float to other med/surg areas on a rotational basis
• Orientation consists of 1-2 shifts to learn unit flow
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Professional scrubs of any color required

This medical center is a 101-bed facility designated as a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. The med/surg unit specializes in cardiac care, operating as a cardiac step down unit serving post-procedure cardiac patients and those requiring telemetry monitoring. The facility offers comprehensive support services including around-the-clock respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, as well as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services.
