Opportunity:
Surgical Assistant - OR
Job Details:
• Perform both Surgical Assistant and Surgical Tech duties as required
• Required certification: BLS and CSA
• Minimum 2-3 years of acute care experience required
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Work in a 28-bed OR unit with 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular cases
• Approximately 60-75 cases per day including outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases
• Case types include GSW, stabbings, transplant (kidney, hearts), donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open hearts/CABGs
• Hybrid room sees 5-10 cases per day including TAVR, AAA, Endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions (adults only)
• 20% pediatric cases including open hearts, appendectomies, and cholecystectomies
• No liver or lung transplant cases
• Participates in Gifts of Hope cases
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
• No floating required
• Schedule is rotation-based with no self-scheduling; placed where needed based on rotation
• Available shift times include 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM, 2:45 PM - 7:15 PM, and 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM
• Schedule options include 3x12-hour shifts, 2x8-hour and 2x12-hour shifts, or 5x8-hour shifts
• Weekend rotation every 4th weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year; Monday through Friday 7:30 AM - 11:00 PM with skeleton crew after 11:00 PM for trauma and urgent cases
• Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM with skeleton crew after 5:00 PM for trauma and urgent cases
• Holiday coverage required
• On-call required depending on shift and service line with a 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call team members
• Scrubs provided

This facility is a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet Designated hospital, also recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. With 794 beds, this large academic medical center offers a wide range of surgical services including cardiovascular, vascular, neuro, ortho, robotics, and transplant surgeries. The OR department operates around the clock and is supported by a robust team including charge nurses, anesthesiologists, resource nurses, educators, and EPIC super-users.
