Description
Job Summary:
This position is for a Medical Surgical Float registered nurse in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The role involves providing nursing care within general medical and surgical units, supporting a diverse patient population with various diagnoses and procedures. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day of assignment.
Job Details:
- Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, Days, minimum 36 hours per week, with 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
- Required Qualifications:
- IN license (or compact as of 07/01/20)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- At least 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a hospital with over 600 beds
- Experience with assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, utilization of the electronic health record, IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps, feeding tubes, chest tubes, management of heparin and insulin drips, IV therapy management
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in large hospital settings
- Certifications such as ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) are preferred but not explicitly required
- Additional Information:
- Floating to other medical units may be required, specifically to other general medical and surgical units
- Orientation includes a one-day hospital orientation, approximately five days of nursing orientation, and Epic class training
- The unit manages a broad spectrum of medical conditions, including chronic illnesses, infections, neurological issues, and mental health disorders
- Equipment utilized includes Epic electronic record system, pyxis medication machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, and telemetry monitoring
- The unit operates within a care setting that emphasizes compliance with hospital policies and safety protocols
