Description

Job Summary:
This operating room (OR) nursing position is located in Madison, Wisconsin. The role entails providing specialized care in neurosurgery within a high-acuity environment, supporting complex procedures such as aneurysm clipping, cervical and lumbar fusions, craniotomies for tumors, and other neuro-related surgeries. Candidates must bring their Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Location: Madison, WI
  • Specialty: Operating Room (OR) Neurosurgery
  • Schedule: Evening shifts, Monday through Friday, with 3 shifts of 12 hours each (0940-2210); includes weekend call rotation and possible holiday call responsibilities.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license; BLS certification from the American Heart Association; minimum of 2 years of acute care experience in neuro-surgical settings; experience with high-acuity trauma cases and neuro-specific procedures (e.g., aneurysm clipping, endoscopic sinus procedures, VP shunt insertion, craniotomies); proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system; trauma Level II experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Community hospital experience; trauma Level I experience.
  • Additional Information:
    • Minimum of 36 hours per week.
    • Previous charge nurse experience preferred but not required.
    • Skills required include ALIF, anterior cervical fusion, cervical and lumbar fusions, craniotomy, electrosurgical units, endoscopic sinus procedures, infection control, laser safety, lumbar fusion, minimally invasive surgery, radiation safety, trauma protocols, and other neuro-surgical procedures.
    • Must have at least 2 years of recent acute care neuro-surgical experience within the last 3 years.
    • Pass/fail telemetry exam required prior to start, with two attempts provided to meet criteria.
    • Candidate must have experience with patient ratios, charting (Epic), trauma protocols, and neuro-specific equipment such as sonopet, bone scalpel, bipolar, and microscopes.
    • Floating as needed is required.
    • Must adhere to vaccination policies, including the flu vaccine (medical/religious exemptions only).
    • Submissions should focus on verifying neuro-surgical experience, certifications, and recent acute care practice.
