Job Summary: Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) Summit, New Jersey
A perioperative PAT RN role is available with the organization, supporting assessment, documentation, patient education, and safety-centered nursing care across the surgical continuum. Responsibilities include performing systematic pre- and post-operative assessments, maintaining accurate chart documentation, supporting timely patient testing completion, and assisting with patient understanding of procedures and instructions. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Days shift, 7a8p; 12 shift hours; minimum 36 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Basic Life Support (BLS); current RN license; education from an accredited School of Nursing (Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing).
• Preferred Qualifications: Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR); 1 year of experience; Associate or Bachelors degree.
• Responsibilities:
  • Perform thorough, systematic, comprehensive, and accurate nursing assessments appropriate to the patient population.
  • Provide competent direct patient care activities and appropriate nursing care in support of patient care delivery and the team concept.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation, including primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and the patients progress toward meeting outcomes, including patient education.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through knowledge of policies and procedures and identification of areas for clinical and professional growth.
  • Respond professionally and courteously to patients, families, and coworkers to promote an environment centered on the patient and family, while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Follow the National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and using two patient identifiers; demonstrate safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patient.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients; individualize patient care according to procedure and anesthesia across the continuum of care; assess patient reactions and understanding of procedure/instructions.
  • Contribute to the perioperative team by directing and prioritizing patient care based on patient needs and changes in condition.
  • Assess patient understanding of surgical procedures/instructions and actively include patients and families in teaching; perform pre-operative and post-operative assessment and education.
  • Support timely completion of patient testing and evaluate Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current health status.
