Description
Surgical Technician/Operating Room Tech (ORT) San Diego, California
The operating room technician provides specific patient care duties and performs unit support activities within the operating room suite. The role includes completing regulatory requirements and mandatory training, supporting orthopedic/neuro/robotic cases, assisting as needed before and during procedures, and documenting and communicating important perioperative information. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Evenings; 12-hour shifts; minimum 36 hours per week (1030 start time).
- Required Qualifications: Minimum of three years as a scrub person in a hospital setting; BLS for HealthCare providers required; approved program for Operating Room Technicians or demonstrated technical skills through on-the-job training; high school education minimum (preferred).
- Preferred Qualifications: Scrub Tech Certification; compliance training; HIPAA training; demonstrated knowledge of dressings and cast application; demonstrated competency managing physician preference cards; instrument tray accountability; count policies and procedures.
- Responsibilities: Consistently complies with facility practices, policies (including attendance, patient safety), and procedures; abides by ethical standards set in the organizations principles handbook; completes and maintains regulatory requirements including licensing and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames; provides quality care to operating room patients by anticipating needs prior to and during each case, including assisting with dressings and/or cast application at the end of the procedure; picks cases following physician preference card; fulfills additional responsibilities without requiring direction; signs counts before the patient leaves the room and counts with the relief person when appropriate; counts towel clips, Allis, and Ednas per procedure and is accountable for complete instrumental trays; reports exceptions and updates surgeon preference cards per entity-specific processes; identifies problems and takes appropriate action to accomplish department objectives and improve quality of care; participates in teaching.
- Additional Information: Must have orthopedic, neuro, and robotic experience; must have travel experience. On-call may be required: 12-hour weekend and 20-hour weekday on-call within a 4-week period with a 30-minute response time; weekend call will be in addition to regularly scheduled weekend shifts; scheduled two shifts every other weekend; cancellation: 1 shift per pay period may be cancelled without pay.
