Description

Job Summary:
Operating Room (OR) Open Heart registered nurse position available in Springfield, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized perioperative care for cardiac surgery patients within a Level I trauma center. The assignment offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity environment with a team dedicated to advanced cardiovascular procedures.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 4x10-hour days (0615-1645) with a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Illinois nursing license; minimum 0 years of experience; BLS certification required; ACLS preferred; at least 3 years of clinical experience in trauma or cardiovascular OR setting; recent experience in CVOR and general OR; excellent procedural skills with Cardiovascular and Vascular surgeries, including TAVR, ECMO, and intra-aortic balloon pump management; competency in laser safety, specimen handling, and universal protocols; strong knowledge of electronic charting systems, specifically Cerner; demonstrated experience in high-level trauma and teaching hospital settings.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high-acuity cardiac procedures, Level II trauma experience, and previous travel experience in similar settings.
  • Additional Requirements: Must have active Illinois license at the time of application; willingness to float within scope; on-call responsibilities one to two nights per week and every fifth weekend; RTO restrictions with no more than five days off; flexibility to discuss block scheduling with the manager.
  • Special Requirements: Experience with a wide variety of cardiovascular, vascular, and endoscopic procedures, including Whipple, thoracotomy, mediastinoscopy, and VATS; familiarity with complex surgeries such as atrial septal defect repair, carotid endarterectomy, and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; competent in laser safety and universal protocol procedures; ability to handle high patient acuity in a Level I trauma environment.
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I trauma center, teaching hospital with 562 beds; parking permit provided at no cost; charting system: Cerner.
