Job Summary:
This position is for an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) registered nurse located in Franklin, Indiana. The role involves providing specialized patient care within a 12-bed unit that combines Coronary Care and Progressive Care services. The nurse will be responsible for managing complex medical conditions and working within a collaborative team environment to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Nights shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. The schedule is self-managed and planned out for 6 weeks.
• Required Qualifications: Certifications required include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). A valid license to practice as a registered nurse is required.
• Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of ICU experience is preferred.
• Unit Details:
  • Unit has 12 beds, combining Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU): 6 beds each.
  • Patient ratios are 1:2 in CCU and 1:3-4 in PCU.
  • Common diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory distress, overdose/ethyl alcohol withdrawal, and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
  • Nurses are required to titrate drips for medications such as Levophed, insulin, dopamine, and heparin.
  • Equipment available includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and oximizers.
  • The unit has telemetry monitoring, and RNs are responsible for reading strips.
• Staffing & Operational Notes:
  • Charge nurse coverage is provided each shift, with a house supervisor on nights and weekends.
  • The unit requires float capability to medical-surgical units and emergency rooms, subject to experience.
  • Orientation includes a general facility overview (one day) followed by 1-2 days on the unit.
  • The shift notes specify three 12-hour shifts.
  • There is a weekend requirement of 4 shifts within a 6-week schedule and one major and one minor holiday during the contract period.
  • Call or standby may be required, but generally nurses are placed on call only if needed.
  • Uniform is navy blue scrubs.
  • The clinical charting system used is Cerner.
