Description

Job Summary:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) registered nurse position is located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing specialized care in a pediatric critical care environment, working with patients requiring advanced medical interventions. The position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic and collaborative team in a busy hospital setting.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week minimum, with day/night rotations and full weekend shifts, starting from 08/31/2026
  • Required Qualifications: Valid RN license; BLS Certification; PALS; 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience are mandatory; COVID vaccination (2 Moderna or Pfizer shots or 1 J&J shot), or approved medical or religious exemption
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with congenital heart program, DKA, respiratory conditions, neurosurgery, tracheostomies, ventilators, G-tubes, and management of adult patients in pediatric units preferred
  • Certifications: BLS, PALS
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years PICU experience required
  • Unit Details: 20 beds with an average daily census of around 15; patient ratios include ICU 1:1-2 and Step-down 1:3; common diagnoses include congenital heart cases, DKA, respiratory illnesses, neurosurgery, and others
  • Team and Support: Charge nurse and house supervisor roles; nurse aides present on days and nights; in-house pediatrician, residents, and advanced practice providers available 24/7; RT equipment including vents, Cpap, BiPAP available; off-unit telemetry monitoring with central monitors
  • Float Requirements: Floating within children's units (L&D, NICU, Pediatrics) may be required, following normal ratios
  • Orientation: EPIC training, competency reviews, equipment review, and a 3-shift mentorship in PICU
  • Additional: No call requirement; holiday rotations included; scrub color is dark gray (pewter)
