Job Summary
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse - Tacoma, Washington. This 19-week contract opportunity involves providing high-level neonatal care in a level II pediatric hospital with a level IV NICU, focusing on complex patient support and clinical mentoring during holiday coverage. The role offers nights shifts and the chance to work with a diverse patient population, including prematurity cases and high-risk deliveries.
Job Details
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, from 0700-1930 or 1900-0730, with a minimum of 36 hours per week, covering nights.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Washington state nursing license; CPR/BLS certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); at least 2 years of NICU Level III-IV experience.
- Skills required: Respiratory support for vents (required), trachs (highly preferred but not required), g-tubes, NG/OG tubes, NCPAP, UAC/UVC management, PICC lines, medication administration, care planning, and discharge planning to home.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with surgical patients and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).
- Certifications: CPR (BLS), NRP.
- Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Prematurity down to 22 weeks gestation, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), high-risk deliveries, feeding issues, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), surgical patients, HIE.
- Additional Information: Flexibility for block scheduling, possible floating to emergency room to act as a sitter (rare), weekend rotation every other week with occasional back-to-back weekends. No on-call responsibilities. The NICU is part of a pediatric hospital attached to an adult hospital, housed in private rooms with overflow capacity for feeders/growers and high-risk labor/delivery.
