Job Summary
The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Nurse position is based in Spokane, Washington. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population in a Level 3 Trauma Center with 18 beds, including medical, surgical, and neuro ICU patients. The position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where clinical expertise and adaptability are essential.
Job Details
- Position Description: Clinical interviewing and assessment of ICU patients, with managerial review prior to final approval.
- Location: 800 West Fifth Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, every other weekend rotation, minimum 36 hours per week. Night shifts will aim to cluster when possible.
- Required Qualifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications; 0 years of experience minimum; Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Nursing; multi-system ICU experience preferred but not required; WA state nursing license; travel experience is strongly preferred, but flexibility may be considered.
- Patient Types: Medical ICU patients with conditions such as DKA, DTs, multisystem failure, ARDS, sepsis, PNA, COVID; Surgical ICU includes open abdomen, thoracotomies; Neuro ICU rarely, but may involve CVA, intracranial hemorrhage, craniotomy/craniectomy; CVICU post-op patients; no care for CRRT, Impella, balloon pumps, or ECMO.
- Patient Ratios: 1:2-3 depending on acuity.
- Support on the Unit: Mobility tech, resource nurse, hospitalist, RT, and intensivist available; charting completed on EPIC; equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing.
- Skills Required: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication titration, proning, hypothermia protocol, chest tubes, drains, invasive line monitoring (including arterial lines and CVP).
- Support and Resources: 24/7 support from hospitalists and RTs, free floating charge nurse, Phlebotomy, and rapid response nurse.
- Orientation: General orientation plus 2x 12-hour shifts on unit; competency in telemetry required prior to start.
- Travel Requirements: Experience in ICU preferred; ability to mobilize vented patients, ambulate, and assist with patient care based on acuity.
- Other Notes: Flexible scrub colors, free parking, team-oriented culture familiar with traveler integration, and policies for time-off request up to 5 days (excluding holidays).

- Additional notes: First-time travelers are encouraged to consider how to adapt to new facility policies; the unit will gradually increase patient acuity to assess skill levels.
