Description
Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (ICU CVICU RN) Largo, MD. This position involves providing specialized post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients within a busy cardiovascular intensive care unit. The role supports adult and geriatric patient populations, with a focus on immediate post-op management, ventilator support, and complex cardiovascular procedures.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 3x12-hour days (07:30-20:00) with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Active Maryland or Compact State RN license, BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred; 0 years of experience minimum, with 2+ years of CVICU/open heart experience preferred; experience with adult and geriatric patient populations; experience with cardiac surgeries including CABG, valve repairs, and CABG/valve combinations.
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge nurse experience, familiarity with Epic electronic charting system, and experience in a Level I or Level II trauma setting.
- Patient Ratios: 2 patients per nurse during days; float to intermediate care where ratios may be 1:3.
- Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac surgery (CABG, valve, CABG/valve), CAD (STEMI, NSTEMI, AFIB with RVR, cardiogenic shock), vascular procedures (peripheral bypass, EVAR), thoracic procedures (VATS).
- Special Procedures/Unit Details: Immediate post-op cardiac surgery care, 1:1 monitoring for first 12 hours, vent management with respiratory therapy, use of Flo Trac, CRRT, IABP, Impella, groin/radial artery management.
- Additional Information: Candidates should be comfortable floating within the scope of CVICU and lower acuity units, including IMC, and be adaptable to changing patient needs. On-call scheduled shifts are not required, but holiday work is expected as scheduled.
- Certification & Skills: Must have ACLS, BLS; CPI certification preferred; experience with arterial line management, chest tube management, chest tube removal, blood product administration, ventilator management, invasive lines, and post-op cardiac care.
- Onboarding/Compliance: Labs to be completed within 72 hours of signing; all documents due 5 days prior to start.
- Other Requirements: Must be comfortable working in adult and geriatric patient populations; float to IMC with appropriate training; ready to start by 09/14/2026.
