Description

Job Summary:
The ICU Neurological Registered Nurse (RN) position is based in Baltimore, Maryland. This role involves providing specialized neurological critical care to adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological conditions. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic neuro-intensive care unit and is ideal for candidates with a strong skill set in neuro-critical care.

Job Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour nights, from 19:00 to 07:30
  • Schedule: 3 nights per week, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: RN license in Maryland or a compact license, BLS certification, ACLS certification, CPI certification (online Calm Every Storm approved vendor), NIHSS certification; 2 years of neuro ICU experience preferred, but new travelers with strong neuro ICU skills may be considered
  • Required Patient Care Experience: Managing neurocritical patients with diagnoses such as acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, neuromuscular disorders, CNS infections, post-craniotomy care, and more
  • Additional Responsibilities: Monitoring intracranial pressure (ICP), managing external ventricular drains (EVDs), operating continuous EEG (cEEG), ventilator management, arterial and central line monitoring, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled; floating within the neuro unit as needed; possible on-call duties
  • Patient Demographics: Adults and geriatrics in a 22-bed neuro ICU with an average daily census of 21 patients
  • Unit Features: Use of specialized equipment such as ICP monitors, external ventricular drains, continuous EEG, and other advanced neuro-monitoring devices
  • Experience: Candidate should be comfortable with high-acuity neuro-critical care and managing complex neurological conditions. Prior experience in Neuro ICU preferred, but not mandatory for highly skilled candidates
  • Additional Information: All travelers are expected to adhere to facility policies regarding floating and scheduling requests. Compliance documentation must be completed 5 days prior to start date.
