Description
Job Summary:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse in a Level III NICU. This position involves caring for critically ill newborns with diagnoses such as prematurity (25-34 weeks), hypoglycemia, respiratory support needs, and other complex conditions. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including neonatologists, and may include duties such as attending deliveries, admissions, and assisting with newborn care when necessary.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend work; schedule is finalized bi-weekly and planned six weeks in advance.
- Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) advanced certification, and STABLE certified. Minimum of 2 years of experience in Level III or IV NICU settings. Proficiency with NC (Neonatal Critical Care skills), HFNC (High-Flow Nasal Cannula), BCPAP (Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), ventilators, chest tubes, UVC (Umbilical Venous Catheter), UAC (Umbilical Arterial Catheter), and care for ELBW (Extremely Low Birth Weight) infants.
- Preferred Qualifications: Delivery room experience highly preferred.
- Additional Information: Candidates must have valid drivers license and provide a copy of their driver's license at submission to verify legal name. Candidates may not have been directly employed by organizations associated with the organization within the past year. The unit supports couplet care but requires NICU nurses to attend deliveries, complete newborn admissions, and assist with newborn care as needed (lab work, observation, transition). The unit employs AWHONN staffing guidelines, with most nurse-to-patient ratios being 1:2, and occasionally 1:1 or 1:3 for feeder grower infants. The NICU operates with a neonatologist in-house 24/7 and uses MEDITECH for charting. Floating to Mother Baby unit may be required, including assistance with procedures such as circumcisions, labs, CCHD screening, or helping with deliveries and admissions.
- Certifications must be current prior to start.
