Description

Job Summary
Operating Room Technician in the OR specialty located in a healthcare facility setting. This role involves assisting in a variety of surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses. The position requires a good technical knowledge of the surgical environment, infection control principles, and sterility standards to support quality patient care and safety.

Job Details

  • Required Qualifications: Graduate of an Accredited Civilian or Military Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technician program; NBSTSA Certified with ongoing certification maintenance; BLS Certification required; 1 year of experience in the Operating Room specialty.
  • Schedule: Day shift, 8 hours per shift, minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Assists in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
  • Maintains a sterile environment according to hospital policy and Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards of Care.
  • Performs scrub technician functions for all service areas and specialties, including assembling sterile and non-sterile equipment, passing instruments, and maintaining surgical supplies.
  • Prepares, cares for, and disposes of specimens for laboratory analysis; assists in applying surgical dressings; helps transport and position patients.
  • Understands and uses sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments; may operate sterilizers, lights, suction, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Accurately prepares and labels medications during surgical procedures under surgeon and nurse direction.
  • Assists in transferring patients to the recovery area and in turnover or restocking of the operating room for subsequent surgeries.
  • Respects patient privacy, dignity, and safety, providing a safe environment for surgical patients.
  • Supports team cooperation, participates in staff meetings, in-service, and educational programs.
