Description

Job Summary:
Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position in a medical intermediate care environment. Located at a regional hospital, this role involves providing high acuity step-down care for patients requiring close monitoring and advanced nursing skills. The position is scheduled for day shifts with an expected duration of 13 weeks, starting from September 15, 2026, to December 15, 2026.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Days, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Must have at least 1 year of experience in step-down intensive care unit (ICU)/intermediate care unit (IMC)/patient care unit (PCU), with relevant certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIH-SS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale). Must hold a valid Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license at the time of submission; temporary licensing not accepted.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with trach patients requiring continuous BiPap or long-term ventilation; familiarity with titratable drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone; and experience with Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) and alcohol or drug withdrawal treatment.
  • Unit Information:
    • Number of beds: 19
    • Staffing: 7 RNs per shift (including 1 charge RN)
    • Patient ratios: 3:1
    • Equipment includes bedside monitors, alaris intravenous pumps, heated humidity high flow oxygen, Bipap, chest tubes, tracheostomy, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, and surgical drains.
  • Additional Requirements: Successful completion of Alaska RN fingerprints during onboarding; adherence to scrub color (navy blue) dress code; physical assessments, intake/output monitoring every 4 hours, safety rounds every hour, and bedside handoffs are mandatory.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required.
  • Scheduling: The role involves working day shifts with a schedule of 12-hour shifts for 13 weeks.
