Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity stepdown Progressive Care/Medical Intermediate Care Unit position requiring active AK RN licensure and at least 1 year of step-down/IMC and telemetry experience.
Details
- 19-bed Medical Intermediate Care Unit (step-down/PCU) on the 4th floor of the main hospital building
- Staffed with 1 charge RN and 6 RNs per shift on both day and night shifts
- Patient ratio of 3:1
- Uses bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated high-flow O2, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, and surgical drains
- EPIC EMR used
- Shift schedule is 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Required to work every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per month)
- Delayed start used in place of on-call when census is low
- Floating required to Cardiac Surgery IMC, Med-Tele, Med-Surg, and Ortho-Neuro units
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required at time of submission (must be permanent, no temporary licensing accepted)
- AK RN fingerprinting must be completed during onboarding
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of step-down ICU/IMC/PCU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience required
- Experience with trach patients requiring continuous BiPap/long-term vent support preferred
- Experience with titratable drips (dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone) preferred
- Experience with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment preferred
- US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required
Additional Information
- Perform physical assessments, intake, and output monitoring every 4 hours
- Conduct hourly safety rounds
- Reposition patients and perform ADLs every 2 hours as indicated
- Mandatory bedside handoff between shifts
- Assist with emergent cardioversion procedures on the unit
- Procedures requiring moderate sedation are performed in a designated procedural area
- Best suited for candidates who are positive, team-focused, and adaptable to a fast-paced, high-acuity environment handling rapid responses, ED admissions, and ICU transfers
- Navy blue scrubs required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
