Description

Job Summary:
A Step Down Unit Nurse specializing in Intermediate Care located in a healthcare facility. This role involves providing specialized patient care within a 30-bed unit, including private and semi-private rooms, with a focus on conditions such as chest pain, arrhythmias, and post-procedure management. The position requires adherence to hospital protocols and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Details:

  • Position Description: Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) nurse responsible for managing patients with intermediate acuity, including those requiring titration of drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale).
  • Education & Experience: Licensure required; minimum of 2 years of experience in a step-down or similar setting.
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, rotating between day and night shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
  • Additional Information:
    • The unit operates with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:4; generally 1:5, occasionally 1:6.
    • Staff cover various shifts including weekends and holidays, with flexibility required for holiday work.
    • Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips, titrate drips, and manage respiratory equipment.
    • Shifts start early, with staff expected to be on the unit by 6:45 am/pm, with self-scheduling options available.
    • All staff are required to float into related units such as Telemetry or Medical Surgical as needed.
