Description:
General job duties. Types of procedures required:
Caring for ventilated patients, initiating and titrating IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics), Assist with intubations, line placement. Monitoring critically ill patients with primary diagnosis of sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia. This is a mixed acuity unit and there are ICU and progressive patients on the same unit. Traveler's will care for both types of patients, more often progressive patients than ICU patients.
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept:
Phillips heart monitors, Epic (EMR), Pyxis, EKG machine, dopplers.
Required skills and minimum years of experience:
Strong background in medical patients and critical care with the ability to be flexible, critically think and reason, team oriented, and personable.
Minimum 1.5 years of ICU experience required, 2 years ICU experience preferred.
Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required:
BLS (AHA only), ACLS (AHA only), IN RN license
Floating to other units/departments:
This is a mixed acuity unit and there are ICU and progressive patients on the same unit. Traveler's will care for both types of patients, more often progressive patients than ICU patients.
These travelers can be floated to other ICUs, other progressive units and down to Medsurg, but will maintain 1:3 ratios across the board.
Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept:
Medical ICU 24 beds, Progressive Care is 12 beds.
Nurse to patient ratio of this unit:
Prog 1:3 or 1:4 w/transfers or medical patients, ICU 1:2 or 1:3 w/transfers or medical patients
Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program:
Onboarding through workforce development to review policies and obtain EPIC training and access. One day of the unit onboarding.
