Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown

Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac stepdown and stroke unit, managing a patient assignment of up to 5–6 patients per shift with potential for high turnover (78–90 patients per week unit-wide)
  • Care for stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients including those with pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and interventional peripheral vascular procedures
  • Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, and other vasoactive medications
  • Monitor and care for patients with diagnoses including unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, and low-risk chest pain
  • Operate and interpret telemetry monitoring and pulse oximetry; manage patients on non-rebreather masks, BiPAP (chronic use only), and high-flow oxygen with stable saturations
  • Float within or near the facility as needed; participate in on-call rotation based on patient census; work every other weekend and required weekday rotations within a 6-week scheduling period

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios and acuity levels
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications
  • Proficiency with IV insertion and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with cardiac drips, PCI patients, and pre/post cardiac procedure care
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior travel nursing experience (first-time travelers will be considered)
  • Familiarity with Pyxis medication dispensing, EPIC (Dimensions) documentation, and SBAR communication
  • Experience caring for patients on opti-flow, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen in a stepdown environment
