Job Title

Registered Nurse – Open Heart/Thoracic PCU (IMC/Stepdown)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide post-open heart and thoracic surgical nursing care in a dedicated PCU/Stepdown unit
  • Perform continuous cardiac monitoring, interpret and manage dysrhythmias, and activate Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
  • Administer and manage cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, and low-dose vasopressors (no titration required)
  • Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management
  • Float within skillset as required by unit needs

Required Qualifications

  • Active Virginia State RN license or active Compact RN license required prior to submission (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Prior post-open heart surgery nursing experience required
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records required
  • Ability to work weekend shifts (every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block)
  • Must be available to work at least one holiday per 13-week contract period

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience in a facility with 250 or more beds preferred
  • Familiarity with remote telemetry monitoring and tele-sitting workflows
  • Experience working in a Magnet-designated or Level I Trauma Center environment
