Registered Nurse – ICU (Neuroscience / Critical Care)

Chesapeake, VA
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 3x12 or 4x12 Hours | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every Other Weekend | Holidays Within Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct critical care nursing to a diverse ICU patient population including neurosurgical, post-stroke, respiratory failure, renal failure, post-surgical, trauma, sepsis/MODS, heart failure, and post-cardiac cath patients
- Manage ventilator-dependent patients and perform IV drip titration
- Monitor and interpret telemetry, identify dysrhythmias, and respond to emergency situations
- Perform and assist with EVD management, conscious sedation, and post-neurosurgical care
- Float as needed to Stepdown Unit and support ICU-level patients held in ED or Med-Surg settings
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EPIC electronic health records system
Required Qualifications
- Active Virginia RN license or valid Compact RN license — must be in hand at time of submission; no exceptions
- BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association required
- NIHSS certification required
- Strong neuroscience experience required, including post-neurosurgical care, EVD management, and stroke care
- Proficiency in EPIC electronic health records — no exceptions
- Must pass a pre-start EKG/telemetry competency test with a score of 80% or higher (one attempt; no remediation available)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Minimum 3 years of critical care experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience will be considered
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
