Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Oncology
Location
Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (3x12 Hours, 18:45–07:15) | Onsite | 13–26 Week Assignment
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit primarily serving patients with oncology histories, including administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and management of diagnoses such as sepsis, AKI, malignant neoplasms, diabetic foot ulcers, and encephalopathy
- Perform and manage clinical skills including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), wound care/wound vac, and surgical drain management
- Administer and monitor high-risk medications including heparin drips and insulin
- Float as required to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas
- Participate in storm team and/or hurricane team assignments; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Attend monthly staff meetings and maintain compliance with unit scheduling requirements, including every-other-weekend shifts and make-up shifts for any called-out shifts
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an inpatient setting with Medical/Surgical skills
- Proficiency in: colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line management, peripheral line care, heparin and insulin administration, chest tubes, wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions
- Ability to administer chemotherapy/biotherapy if needed
- Current BLS certification
- Familiarity with PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR communication
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or other oncology certification
- Charge nurse experience
- CPI certification
