Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Location
Quincy, IL
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Full-Time | Days | Onsite | 3x12-hour shifts starting at 7:00 AM | Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a fast-paced 48-bed inpatient Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit utilizing a primary care nursing model
- Manage a diverse surgical patient population including post-operative total joint replacements, neuro-surgical cases, vascular surgery, and general abdominal surgery patients
- Administer and monitor PCA pumps, epidurals, TPN, lipids, IV antibiotics, and narcotic pain management; administer reversal agents such as Narcan as indicated
- Titrate heparin drips per protocol and interpret telemetry strips using Draeger monitoring equipment
- Recognize and respond to sepsis, manage urgent surgical admissions, and coordinate timely patient discharges in a high-volume environment
- Float to like units as needed; if floated to higher acuity areas, function in a support role without a primary patient assignment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure in good standing
- Minimum 1 year of surgical nursing experience required
- Total joint replacement experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- Current NIHSS certification required
- EPIC EMR experience required
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with TPN and lipid administration
- Familiarity with sepsis management protocols and heparin titration
- Experience caring for dialysis patients or patients with dialysis catheters
- Comfort working in a high-volume surgical unit with frequent admissions and discharges
