Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown
Location

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac and stroke unit managing a wide range of diagnoses including unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, and pre/post cardiac intervention patients
- Initiate IVs, monitor telemetry, and manage cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone; titrate drips as required
- Care for stable pre- and post-procedure patients including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and peripheral vascular interventions
- Operate and monitor special equipment including telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow oxygen, non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Manage a patient assignment of up to 5–6 patients in a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover (approximately 78–90 patients per week unit-wide)
- Participate in on-call rotations, floating within or near the facility as needed, and adhere to weekend scheduling requirements (every other weekend, 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per 6-week period)
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios and acuity levels
- Proficiency in IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and PCI patient care
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Comfort with self-scheduling guidelines, floating, and on-call requirements as outlined by unit leadership
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers will be considered
- Familiarity with Pyxis, EPIC (Dimensions), and SBAR communication framework
- Experience caring for patients on opti-flow or BiPAP in a surge or COVID-designated unit environment
