Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days (3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Onsite | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department, managing adult patients awaiting inpatient bed placement with any medical/surgical diagnosis
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and respond appropriately using Rapid Response Team protocols
- Float to Medical/Surgical and Emergency Department areas as needed, including caring for PCU-level patients at appropriate acuity ratios (1:6 MS/Tele or 1:4 PCU)
- Perform and manage clinical skills including blood product administration, PICC and peripheral line care, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and colostomy and feeding tube management
- Document accurately using Epic, communicate via SBAR, and administer medications using Pyxis
- Be available and prepared to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters as part of a Storm or Hurricane Team assignment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in a Medical/Surgical or Telemetry setting
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with heparin and insulin drip management, isolation precautions, phlebotomy, and ABG interpretation
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, and central line blood draws
- Orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac experience
- Familiarity with starting IVs independently in high-acuity environments
