Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (3x12-Hour Shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Onsite | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for adult medical/surgical patients housed within an ED inpatient holding area while awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Monitor and manage patients at MS/Tele and PCU acuity levels, including telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical units as needed based on census and staffing demands
- Operate and manage standard unit equipment including cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems
- Utilize facility systems including Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication protocols
- Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical/Surgical or Telemetry
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Demonstrated skills in blood product administration, PICC/peripheral line management, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, chest tube management, tracheostomy management, and isolation precautions
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
- IV insulin protocol management and pre/post hemodialysis care
- Experience with port access, central line blood draws, and wound care/wound vac management
- Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacement experience
