Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36–48 hours per week | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for adult medical/surgical patients in an ED inpatient holding area while awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Monitor and manage telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias via on-unit and remote monitoring
- Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed, including care of PCU-level patients
- Manage a variety of clinical needs including blood product administration, PICC/peripheral line care, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
- Utilize Rapid Response Teams and maintain proficiency with standard unit equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps
- Document using Epic, communicate via SBAR, and administer medications via Pyxis
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state
- Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical Telemetry nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, insulin and heparin administration, isolation precautions, and respiratory support modalities
- Ability to float within and near the facility and work every other weekend
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, and central line blood draws
- Background in orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, or wound care/wound VAC
- Experience starting IVs and managing complex wound care
