Registered Nurse – ICU (Critical Care Float Pool)

Newport News, VA

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (3x12 Hours, 19:00–07:00) | Friday, Saturday, Sunday | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Float across multiple Critical Care Units including Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac Care Unit, and Oncology ICU as needed
  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients including trauma, surgical, neurological, cardiac, oncology, and complex medical cases
  • Manage patients requiring increased levels of care such as DKA, ETOH withdrawal, chemo inductions, and post-cardiac procedure monitoring
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly using EPIC electronic health record system
  • Adhere to unit-specific protocols and participate in holiday and weekend scheduling as required

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license valid in Virginia or a compact license with proof provided at time of submittal
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care experience, with specialty experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Completed NIH and stroke education
  • One supervisory reference required at time of submittal

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience floating across multiple ICU unit types (surgical, medical, cardiac, oncology)
  • Flexible scheduling availability including every other weekend and potential holiday shifts
  • Experience caring for neuro, open-heart surgery, or oncology critical care patient populations
