Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Location
Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 3x12-hour shifts | 36 or 48 hours per week available | 13–20 week contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, caring for patients with diagnoses including diabetes, CHF, sepsis, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms remotely and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias, including utilization of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Manage vascular access including peripheral IVs, central lines, PICC lines, and perform phlebotomy and central line blood draws
- Administer blood products, high-risk medications (heparin, insulin, PCA), and provide non-invasive airway management including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy
- Perform wound care, wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and chest tube monitoring
- Float to a nearby campus as required and participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable for submission)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing experience
- Current BLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias; must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Ability to work every other weekend, required holidays (minimum 2 of 3 major holidays), and be open to floating within and near the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification and experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram care, post-MI care, or post-cardiac surgery care
- Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, port access and management, arterial blood gas interpretation, and surgical drain management
- Background in bariatric surgery care, CVA management, substance withdrawal, or pre/post thoracic surgery
- Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital background, and proficiency with electronic documentation systems
