Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown
Location

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 12-Hour Night Shifts (18:45–07:15) | Friday, Saturday & Sunday | 36 Hours Per Week | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac stepdown and stroke unit, managing a patient assignment of up to 5–6 patients with potential surge fluctuation
- Care for stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and peripheral vascular interventions
- Initiate and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone; manage TR bands and monitor telemetry continuously
- Assess and manage patients with diagnoses including unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, and low-risk chest pain
- Operate and monitor special equipment including telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Participate in a fast-paced unit environment with high patient turnover (approximately 78–90 patients per week), including on-call and float responsibilities as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios and acuity levels
- Proficiency in IV insertion and telemetry monitoring
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications
- Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start
- Ability to float within or near the facility and fulfill on-call requirements based on patient census
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience; first-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Experience managing PCI patients and titrating cardizem drips independently
- Familiarity with Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication frameworks
