Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown
Location
Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15) | 36 Hours per Week | 13–26 Week Assignments
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a cardiac stepdown unit managing diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valvular conditions, cardiomyopathy, and peripheral vascular disease
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias; manage and titrate cardiac drips as indicated
- Perform and assist with sheath management and removal, femoral sheath care, and post-procedural monitoring following cardiac catheterization, DCCV, electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
- Operate and manage specialized equipment including chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires, arterial lines, TR band, Fem-stop, Doppler, bladder scanner, and EKG
- Provide post-operative care for patients following cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, and FEM-POP bypass
- Document using EPIC, communicate via SBAR, and administer medications via Pyxis; adhere to unit float rotation and weekend requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience on a cardiac floor required
- Travel nursing experience required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Demonstrated skills in cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath care, and non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Arterial line management experience
- Wound care and wound vac experience
- Prior charge nurse experience
