Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / CVU
Location
Omaha, NE
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days | Shifts: 0630–1900 and 1830–0700 | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide intermediate-level cardiac and vascular nursing care for patients including those downgraded from the CVICU, as well as post-surgical, EP, cath lab, and structural heart patients
- Titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips independently; unit utilizes hardwired tele and tele box capabilities with remote tele tech support
- Manage nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours, across an 18-bed unit
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, cardiology on-call, and respiratory therapy to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Float to units of the same or lower acuity level as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure
- Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac stepdown or similar patient population
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients with diagnoses such as CVA, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Familiarity with BiPAP and CPAP respiratory therapy equipment
- Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips in a stepdown or intermediate care setting
