Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location
Wilmington, NC
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 12-Hour Shifts (3x12, 36–48 hours per week) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5–6, caring for patients with orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, subdural hematomas, and neurological trauma
- Administer heparin drips, blood products, and other IV medications; manage central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral lines
- Perform and oversee colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, wound care, and surgical drain management including chest tubes
- Monitor and manage cardiac dysrhythmias, oxygen protocols, and non-invasive airway management including tracheostomy care and oral suctioning
- Document patient care accurately using Epic and communicate effectively using SBAR methodology
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed; participate in storm, hurricane, or disaster response teams as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (NC or Compact)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical RN experience within the last 5 years
- BLS certification (current)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record documentation
- Ability to manage heparin drips, PCA, phlebotomy, IV starts, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Must pass EKG testing prior to assignment start
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification and demonstrated ability to interpret dysrhythmias
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and drip management
- Background in CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, or spinal cord injury care
