Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Neuro)
Location
Omaha, NE
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shift | Onsite | Shifts: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM / 6:30 PM–7:00 AM | Every other weekend required; additional weekends may be required based on unit needs | 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 25-bed Medical Surgical Neurology unit serving patients with strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery recovery, and general Med/Surg overflow including joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, sepsis, GI bleeds, and pneumonia
- Titrate drips including Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine; manage PCA pumps
- Maintain telemetry awareness; telemetry technicians will interpret strips, but RNs are expected to have working knowledge of cardiac monitoring
- Perform consistent hourly rounding and maintain high responsiveness to patient needs throughout the shift
- Manage high patient throughput including multiple admissions and discharges within a single shift
- Float as needed to other Medical Surgical areas or units housing Med/Surg patients pending bed placement
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license with no background or license hits
- Current BLS certification required
- Current NIHSS certification required
- Ability to pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility and must not be concurrently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health
- Valid driver's license required at time of submittal
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
- Experience caring for culturally diverse patient populations, including non-English-speaking patients
- Comfort managing a high-volume, fast-paced Med/Surg environment with strong organizational and time-management skills
