Key Responsibilities
- Perform nursing assessments on all patients within 8 hours of admission and develop individualized plans of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
- Provide accurate, succinct, and timely documentation of all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record in accordance with policy.
- Participate in patient rehabilitation programs, utilizing the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care with a focus on patient and family education.
- Initiate discharge planning from the day of admission and provide patient teaching in anticipation of the discharge date.
- Communicate pertinent information regarding changes in patient status to attending physicians, charge nurses, and other care providers to ensure continuity of care and patient safety.
- Provide direction, training, and supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees, delegating appropriately and utilizing effective problem-solving techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Alabama or compact licensure eligibility.
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Competency in safe patient handling, infection control, and adherence to hospital safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to supervise and delegate to ancillary nursing staff effectively.
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to maintain accurate and timely medical records.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in a rehabilitation or long-term acute care setting.
- Prior charge nurse experience or demonstrated leadership in a clinical environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education and self-study.
