Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Neuro)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shifts | Onsite | Shifts: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM / 6:30 PM–7:00 AM | Every other weekend required; additional weekends may be required based on unit needs | 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 25-bed Med/Surg Neuro unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6, managing a diverse patient population including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery cases, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, sepsis, GI bleeds, and other Med/Surg overflow patients
- Titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine; manage PCA pumps and set-rate drips
- Maintain telemetry awareness; tele techs will interpret strips, but RNs are expected to have foundational tele knowledge
- Perform consistent hourly rounding and maintain high responsiveness to patient needs; manage multiple admissions and discharges within a single shift
- Float as needed to other medical surgical areas or units housing Med/Surg patients awaiting bed placement
- Serve a culturally diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients, with a compassionate and patient-first approach
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license with no license or background hits
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must successfully pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; compliance is required to maintain contract
- Valid driver's license required at time of submittal
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Must not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience strongly preferred; strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
- Experience with Med/Surg Telemetry or Neuro patient populations
- Ability to manage high patient throughput with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Team-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with diverse patient cultures
